birthday fun!!!
We had a wonderful time celebrating Adelie's first birthday yesterday. I still can't believe that she's already a year old. This year has been the most amazing year of my life, with the most special moments. I am so in love with this little girl, and I'm so grateful for all the joy she brings to my life every day. She makes me so happy & I am so lucky to be her mom.
Nate, Adelie and I had a great time celebrating. Nate & I both took the day off of working and spoiled our little lady. We spent most of the day at the zoo...which she loved! She loved all the animals (especially the seals!) & was loving life in the stroller (see 2nd to last photo for proof! ha!). We made the zoo trip very memorable by firing up the lioness & cougars...OH MY GOSH!!! I guess balloons aren't allowed at the zoo (who knew?!!!). We actually had them taken away from us when we were walking through the gardens/conservatory area (by then the balloons were no risk at all...which is hilarious to me...but rules are rules I guess). Anyway, back to the story...so, we were visiting the lioness & the zookeeper warned us that bright colors (and the balloons) would make the lioness a little aggressive (as in...she would pounce onto the glass at us....). Thank you, Mr. Zookeeper for the warning...that may have put me into preterm labor to have a huge (very fierce looking!) lioness attack the glass....It just doesn't seem like that glass could hold back all that power!! Anyway, no attacks by her...thank goodness! BUT....THEN...we visited the cougars (which were outside). The cougars were FIERCE!!!!! They were ready to POUNCE the balloons....seriously, pacing back & forth...climbing to the top of the rock formations & staring us down....ready to ATTACK!!!! I was very frightened. Again, it doesn't seem super safe to be separated from this huge, aggressive, frightening animal by a thin fence....I sure am glad the fence rose 50+ feet in the air...but those cougars were ready to find a way out....they continued to stare us down even when we were far, far away. Look closely at the pics & you'll see those scary cats! YIKES! Anyway, point of the story....as fun as it was to stroll the birthday girl around with her darling balloons, there are NO BALLOONS allowed at the zoo....for a good reason!!! After the zoo adventure, we made a quick trip to The Salty Tart (a fantastic bakery that we just discovered....YUM!!) and we stocked up on cupcakes (and maybe a couple other treats for the rest of the week....we just couldn't resist!). We had a great dinner at our favorite restaurant, Yum! And then we finished the day off with presents....and a CUPCAKE!
A wonderful day...for an absolutely amazing little girl. I love my little Adelie more than I will ever be able to express! Happy birthday, little A!

Laguna Beach, CA
Sorry about the photo overload, but I wanted to share some of my favorites from the trip. We had an absolutely amazing vacation with my mom to California! The entire trip was fantastic. It was so great to see Ryan and Heather and their darling family. Their boys are adorable and it was precious to see Adelie playing with her cute cousins. She and Finn had an especially good time together! She loved following him around and watching his every move! It really made my heart melt to see Adelie with baby Jude. I don't think she noticed him until about day 2 or 3 but when she did, it was really sweet to see her studying him...and pretty funny to see her trying to climb into the bouncy chair with him. I can't wait to see what she does with a baby sister!!
We had a beautiful view of Laguna Beach from our hotel room balcony! It turns out Adelie is just as much of a 'water girl' as her mommy. She loved touching the ocean water (even though it was super cold!) and she was so entertained watching the waves crashing in. One of my favorite parts of the trip was taking her on an early morning walk on the beach, just the two of us. It was so special to have that one on one time with my favorite little sweetheart. She was loving it just as much as me. It's a memory that will forever remain special to me.
Another favorite memory: Adelie's first carousel ride!!! I was so excited to visit the carousel with her. I knew she would love it. It was every bit as exciting as I expected. She rode a panda bear for her first ride...it doesn't get better than that! It was super cute seeing Finn & Adelie loving the carousel together. We were the only ones on the carousel & it was truly precious!!! I could have stayed there all night...and I'm sure she could have too...so fun!

february
It's been a fun month! Life is getting so exciting as we approach the little baby girl's arrival...only 8 more weeks! I know this last part of the pregnancy is going to pass quickly...and soon enough we'll have 2 darling girls to keep us smiling. I can't wait to see how Adelie is with her baby sister. She's still such a little girl herself...I don't know what she's going to think. She turns 1 in 14 days!!! I can't believe how quickly this past year has gone. It makes me a little teary (ok, a LOT teary!!!) to think of how fast the first year passed. But, we have been so incredibly blessed with happiness this past year. Adelie has brought more joy to our life than Nate or I could have ever anticipated. I truly believe that life doesn't really begin until you have kids. I have never been so incredibly happy. She brings an element of happiness and cheer to our days that cannot compare to any other joy. I can't begin to imagine what life will be like in 8 weeks...but I am confident that our love will continue to grow as a family and our experiences will be even more wonderful with the addition of our new daughter. As I type that, I realize that it still hasn't fully sunk in yet that we will have 2 daughters...and it likely won't until she's here. With that said, I am incredibly excited and overjoyed and full of gratitude that I have been blessed to be a mother. I never could have dreamed of a life so beautiful.
Here are a few photos from the past few weeks (valentine breakfast, playing in the snow, and more Adelie pics). Adelie has made great progress crawling around the house and getting into everything and standing really strong! It's so fun to see her grow and develop! She loves watching Nate from the door...especially when he is building her a snow fort/castle! He's such a wonderful daddy.
